As we approach #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek with both the pressures of lockdown alongside the unknown of the ‘new normal’ our focus should be on our people and the socio-cultural and economic implications of COVID-19.

The National Office of Statistics UK has reported that the majority of the people they have surveyed in the UK felt worried about the future, or stressed or anxious.

We all have a responsibility to ourselves, others and our future generations to stay conscious of the potential mental health implications of COVID-19 and what this means for the workplace as we gradually transition into the ‘New Workplace Reality’.

We will all respond differently and as such ‘managing the change of COVID-19’ as well a safeguarding our own and the wellbeing of others within the workplace whilst not forgetting those still working virtually will be of paramount importance.

As will considering the emerging issues of our supply chains, customers, share and other stakeholders. COVID-19 is if nothing else a leveller, we will all be fundamentally changed by this moment in time.

Are we ready to make the complete shift required to enable us to adapt, respond, transition, stabilise and recover?

We are living through unprecedented times, there is no shame in anyone at any level of the organisation finding grappling with so many unknown variables difficult. These are challenging times.

Whilst my heart broke watching a man talk about his incarceration, loss of life and survival I was reminded that when we protect our mental health our mind has the power to remain free whilst our physical state can be caged by circumstance. We are stronger than we think. Talk and together we will get through this. #mentalhealthawareness

People say that this is similar to post war Britain so lets ensure that when it comes to mental health we leave no ‘man’ behind…
